Oh Bast in Heaven, I needed this one, even if I was bright red reading it on the Q train (aka my reading room).If there's one thing I can bless the erotic boom of the last several years for, it's for giving writers the opportunity to write about interests outside of the mainstream. Not many, however, write with the grace and sexiness of Rebekah Weatherspoon's ouevre, and At Her Feet is my favorite so far.Suzanne Kim, LA-based marketer extraordinaire, caps off her internet surfing one evening with a quick note to a beautiful woman on Kinklife. Some sexy messages later, they meet with intention: Pilar wants to be Suzanne's Mami P, and for Suzanne to be her little girl. Suzanne's soon whisked away into a world of compassionate, loving ageplay and domination, but human nature, the kink community, and a creepy creeper who Suzanne has a hard time dodging. Love wins out, and they go off into their happily-ever-after with wisdom, love, and some really, really good sex.Y'all, this was just such a wonderful story of how a relationship can be built from the ground up, and proof that negotiation, affection, and consent can be very, very sexy and romantic. Yes, it's a novel about ageplay, which is definitely not for everything, but Weatherspoon handles it with a deft hand while keeping things hot and fun. At Her Feet has a very diverse cast (Black and Korean main character, Mexican love interest), and handles heavy issues savvily, giving them weight while keeping the pace brisk and fresh. I was really happy to see a scene calling out transmisogyny in the kink scene, and cursed Suzanne's ex for treating her like an exotic accessory. With a world like this, retreating into the safe space of Mami P's home is like going home to a warm blanket and hot chocolate--it's so comforting. And then there's a hot sex scene. So very, very recommended if this is your jam, or if your curious if it's your jam--I can't think of a sweet introduction. This book surprised me. Interesting story of a young woman's journey in a kink-based, sweet, romantic relationship. Solid writing style, lots of cuddling and sex, a variety of kink I was not very familiar with and wasn't really drawn to but still sexy and interesting to read about. And I really liked all the emphasis on exploration of feelings. All good stuff though nothing that especially moved or grabbed me. So for most of the way through I expected to be giving this a respectable 3 stars ...And then at 80%, something happened that changed my whole experience of the book. A shocking revelation led to dramatic sequence of events that kept me on the edge of my seat on an emotional roller coaster ride to the last page. And the parts about trust, near the end, omg, hit me *so* hard in the feels. ðŸ˜❤So, bit of a slow start for me, but by the time I reached the end I found this book a really moving read.
