I just had to come on here and write a quick review as a warning to anyone who is like me and just preorders every SubLime book that hits Amazon, because you can't go wrong with BL. This went wrong.I consider myself to be fairly degenerate, but this title was actually too much for me in terms of being able to enjoy reading. It takes all of the "worst" tropes of yaoi to extreme extremes, and not in a "teehee how kinky" way. If you're a fan of psychological abuse, physical abuse, group rape, rape, assault, discrimination, PTSD, suicide, and constant dehumanization (and not in a sexy dom/sub), this is probably the series for you. To me, it makes Yarichin Bitch Club seem wholesome. So yeah, unfortunately for me (I guess), Caste Heaven doesn't make up for this full-on assault of content warning topics by having an engaging story or characters. I'm certainly not interested in any of these characters and/or their personalities enough to continue with this series. Well, let's start by addressing a few of the reviews below when it comes to the story:Ogawa Chise is known to write twisted stories. Once in a blue moon, she writes fluffy content when you least expect it (or incorporates fluff into her messed up plots, which does happen a little in this story) but overall it's to be expected with her -- if you're unsure if her material is for you I suggest reading some online prior to purchase. That being said.Story: This is personally a favorite of mine from Chise and when compared to some of her other manga, I think it's fairly tame by comparison (ie: no incest as of yet, no pedophilia as of yet, most of the darker more controversial things she does have not taken place in this manga as far as the current 28 chapters released online show). Still, this story does contain rape, emotional manipulation, physical, mental, and sexual abuse in varying forms and at times romanticizes these abuses with certain characters. This is not a story for the faint of heart. I am genuinely surprised it got published in the USA but I think with manga like Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai (Twittering Birds Never Fly) it's becoming more common. The story itself is fairly straight forward, there are minor plot twists but overall most of the psychological aspects are within the character interactions themselves and not so much within the story-telling. It starts off really brutal, the characters come off pretty unlikable right away and as the story unfolds you will slowly see the real versions of said characters come out as well as more light-hearted content; though as far as volume one goes you will only get their overall darker sides.Quality of the manga itself: In comparison to most American versions of manga, this leans more toward Japanese manga quality (pictures as an example), these are smaller in comparison and the paper quality is much thinner and not as heavy-duty quality as other brands. I had never bought a SUBLIME manga before so I wasn't sure what to expect, but it looks like they simply imported the manga and then translated it; alterations don't seem to be have been made much. The manga, also like Japanese versions, comes plastic wrapped which is convenient if you want to make it a collector's item or if you're worried about the manga being handled during shipping.4/5 for quality of the book itself, the story I rate 8/10 because it appeals to my taste.
